Many of us have visions for growth that we often think about or even talk about from time to time.  But, do we ever see them through?  Maybe, maybe not.  For some of us, we take action when we are forced to do so - when we have no other choice but to act.  For example, instead of changing our lifestyle now, we wait until there is an alarming medical issue or, instead of addressing a small leak in the roof, we wait until the water damage threatens to collapse the roof onto our congregation!  We may even miss out on realizing positive growth potential because we wait too long to address a lack of proper space for our growing ministries and activities.  In other words, many times we are more likely to procrastinate than take action.  The reality is that putting off a decision is more cumbersome, more costly, and can be detrimental to your community.  The longer we wait the less effective the outcome.  Here are five tips to help you take action:

 1.  Put it on paper.  Writing things down will help you to organize your thoughts and begin to make them more concrete.

 2.  Break it Down.   Sometimes your full plan may get overwhelming.  Break it down into smaller more manageable steps.  Don’t forget to include a timeline with reasonable deadlines.

 3.  Communicate and Solicit Input.  Gather and put to good use the various gifts of your community!  Sharing your ideas with others will help you to shape them, solidify them and gain much needed support.  It is also important to hear the views and dreams of those around you.  An added benefit to sharing with others is accountability.  Naturally bringing in others will create an excitement and momentum that will help keep you on track and moving forward!

4.  Refine your Plan.  Now that you have support, formally articulate your goals and then, decide what must be done in order for you to achieve those goals.

5.  Take Action!  All of the pieces are in place for you to take action.  Consider utilizing professional counsel.  An expert will not only lend their valuable input, but they will keep you on track, maximize your potential and ultimately bring your vision to fruition.
